How to make puppets

Puppets are fun and great for the imagination; this is a small collection of puppet crafts for children or the whole family. They are simple enough for children to do by themselves.

Leopard finger puppet

You will need:

Orange felt

Yellow felt

Black felt

2 - Small buttons

Color marker

Small sticker, yellow and orange

Pipe cleaner

Thread, black and yellow

Needle

Scissors

Glue

Directions:

1. Fold the orange felt in half using the scissors, cut into two pieces.

2. Take one piece of the orange felt and sew on two small buttons for the eyes, take the black felt and make a nose, then glue nose on the orange felt. Cut out of the black felt a small mouth and glue onto the orange felt for the mouth.

3. Make two small ears from the orange felt and sew on the top of the orange felt face.

4. Take the other piece of orange felt and sew to the back of your face orange felt, using the yellow thread. Leaving the bottom open for your finger.

5. Using the orange and yellow sticker place spots on your leopard.

6. Cut a tiny slit for the leopard’s whiskers; slip the pipe cleaners into the slits to make the leopard’s whiskers.

Girl Sock Puppet

You will need:

Sock

Yellow Yarn, cut in strands twelve inches long

Yellow Yarn, cut in strands two inches long

Ribbon, six inches

2- Small buttons

2- Medium round red stickers

Sewing thread

Needle

Glue

Directions:

1. Take the sock and put your hand into it, with your fingertips in the toes, and the heel over your knuckles, push the toe between your thumb and fingers to make a mouth. The heel will be the head of the puppet. Mark where the eyes will go and then take off the sock.

2. Take the short strands of yarn, this will part of the hair, stitch these strands to the top of the head. Then lay the longer strand over the head overlapping the fringe. Hang where it is even on both sides. Stitch these strands to the top of the head. Braid the yarn and tie a ribbon to hold in place.

3. Glue the buttons for the eyes over the markings you made.

4. Take the red medium circle stickers, and stick to make rosy cheeks.
